Telegram dated 28/7//1915 to say Ernest Marshall was dangerously ill with gun shot wound to head in General Hospital, Etaples France. Then one dated 29/7/1915 to say he may be visited - inform relatives. Not sure if this makes sense as he is still in General Hospital in Etaples, but it is very clear. His wife writes to York on the 4th August asking about condition. His grave is in the Military Cemetery in Etaples. He is commemorated in St Mary Church Walkley Sheffield along with his Brother Albert Marshall who died 1/7/1916. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star & British War Medal.

Ernest was Private # 2092 of the 12th Bn. York & Lancs. He died on 10/8/1915.
