Leonard Rhodes

Leonard was the brother of Peter's Father.

He was born 22nd Nov 1896 probably at 27 Wood Road. He was originally an apprentice at Burgon and Ball at Malin Bridge.He enlisted Nov 1915, was discharged and re-joined April 27th 1916. He was with 3rd Battalion Yorks and Lancs. Landed in France 20th July 1916 and was posted to 26th Bn Northumberland Fusiliers. In 1916 he was in the following battles:- 15th Sept Somme, 10th Oct Armentiers. In 1917 he was in the following battles:- 9th April + 4th June Arras,Wounded 20 May. He also fought at Passendale. On 27th May 1918 he became a prisoner of war and was interned at Kassel [Cassel] and was put to work in a foundry or similar steel works. After the war he worked in the gentleman's outfitters dept of the    Co-op in Sheffield.
Leonard was Pte. 41381.
He died at the Northern General Hospital on 23/2/1978.
