Waide Reginald Worrall

Reg Worrall was married to Marjorie Rhodes, my Father's Sister. He first served with 1st/3rd West Riding Field Ambulance RAMC as a stretcher bearer entering France 16th April 1914. He was gassed on 12th Dec 1915 and admitted to his own field hopital.He returned to England on 1st March 1917 to undergo officer training with 8th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. Reg sailed from Folkestone on 21st April 1918 to join the 5th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry,On 13 May 1918 he was posted to the 151st Trench Mortar Battery stationed in forward trenches close to Craonne in the Aisne department of France. On 25th May 1918 he was wounded [Bullet through left foot; bullet through right thigh, left arm, right arm.] and captured. After treatment in a German hospital he was tranferred to Karlsruhe POW camp. He was repatriated after the armistice

Born at Bradfield on 20/4/1895, he was Pte. & Second Lieut. 147 and 405091 1/3rd West Riding Field Ambulance and 8th West Yorksgire Regt.

In 1922 he became a partner in the West Don Steel Co where he stayed until retirement. They had one daughter, Cynthia, who became a doctor.
Reg died on 2/7/1975 at the Northern General hospital at Sheffield.
