Walter Mummery

Walter was Glenda’s grandfather. He was born on 18/6/1892 at an Infantry Barracks in Lancashire, the son of a career military man. He was Pte. 12313 2nd East Yorkshire Rgt. He survived the war and died in later life on 2/9/1957 at St. John Hospital, Pleck, Staffordshire.

Walters parents were married in Owlerton and both died in Sheffield, William in 1945 and Elizabeth in the June qtr of 1911. Walter appears on the 1911 Census as being at 273 Langsett road.

Married Elizabeth THACKRAH, on December 24, 1889, by A H Rhodes (Banns) at
St John the Baptist Church, Owlerton. Father's name is William Mummery (Deceased).
Married in the presence of Charles Jenkinson, Clara Young.
Both Elizabeth Thackrahs parents were born in Sheffield.

At some point he was stationed at Whittington Barracks near Lichfield Staffordshire, that is where he met his wife. They married in 1923 when he was 26. His medal index card has an address for Lichfield entered on it.
