George Bramham

Submitted by Kenneth Lashley

George Bramham was the husband of Kenneth's great aunt Lizzie

He enlisted with 12 (Service) btn Y&L (the Sheffield Btn) on 10th Sept 1914.

26th Sept 1915 he was released for munitions work (ref Sheffield City Btn by Gibson & Oldfield page 75) and he spent most of the war with them (he was a fitter turner pre war).

In 1916 he married my great aunt Lizzie (Lashley).

His service record shows that he was posted to the 6th Btn 25/8/18 and joined them 31/8/18. 6 btn Y&L fought in the battle of the Canal du Nord outside Cambrai between 27th Sept and 1st Oct 1918. His service record shows that on 4th Oct he received multiple (shrapnel?) wounds to arm, leg foot and ear. He was transferred via 1CAN CCS and 7 CAN GH to Dover military hospital where he died of his wounds. (His death cert records multiple gsw to R & L legs). NB his death cert and burial record appear to show him as George Branham.
